Holy Family Parish Christmas brunch a rousing success
Holy Family Parish continued its 10-year tradition of celebrating Christmas with a morning brunch Dec. 25 at St. Joseph Church in Verona and Our Lady of Joy in Plum.
More than 140 guests were treated to brunch and cookies made by the bakers in the parish’s cookie ministry. An additional 78 meals were delivered to those unable to attend in person.
More than 115 volunteers from all of the Holy Family Parish churches, along with a few volunteers from other local churches, participated by taking reservations, delivering flyers, decorating, cooking, baking, serving, organizing, greeting, socializing, shuttling guests, directing traffic, cleaning up, providing entertainment, and packaging and delivering meals.
The Christmas brunch was supported by donations of certificates, candy, pastries, blankets, slippers, ornaments, and cookies. After all were served, the remaining food and goodies were shared with the Jubilee Kitchen in Pittsburgh and Riverview Community Action Corporation.

Oakmont Christmas tree collection
Oakmont’s Christmas tree collection is coming to an end. Residents have until Friday, Jan. 12 to bring their trees to 3 Ann St. in Oakmont.
The trees will be given to goat rental company Capricious LLC, whose group of goats named the “Munch Bunch” helped maintain the overgrown vegetation along the borough’s Allegheny River bank.
Borough officials ask that tree donations are free of tinsel and ornaments and haven’t been treated with chemicals. Wreaths or garland will not be accepted because they contain wires.
Christmas trees taken for recycling at Boyce Park
Plum is pointing residents to the Allegheny County Parks Department for its annual Christmas tree recycling program.
Residents may drop off Christmas trees at all nine county parks from 8 a.m. until dusk through Sunday.
The drop-off location at Boyce Park is the soccer fields parking lot.
All lights, decorations, tinsel and stands must be removed from trees. Trees will be mulched for use in the county parks.
