A Plum Senior High School student has achieved the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

Cody Chill’s Eagle Scout rank was acknowledged during a Court of Honor ceremony on Dec. 17 at Holiday Park United Methodist Church in Plum. Fewer than 6% of Boy Scouts become Eagles.

Special guests speakers at his Court of Honor included Ron Sakolsky, who serves on Plum Borough School Board; Bernie Ogline, director of the Plum Food Pantry; Jamie Uber of the National Eagle Scouts Association; and former Troop 111 Scoutmasters. All made remarks speaking to Cody’s leadership qualities and service to his community.

The beneficiary of Cody’s Eagle Scout project was Holy Family Parish, with the construction of a brick fire pit for youth groups and other parish ministries to use for social gatherings. Cody managed the entire project, including planning, approvals, funding, procurement of materials, and managing of Boy Scout volunteers and friends who came out to help.

In addition to the service hours Cody logged as a Scout, he also serves the local community by volunteering at the Plum Food Pantry, which he has done every Tuesday for the past few years and will continue to do so until he moves away to attend college.

A high school senior, Cody has been accepted to Penn State’s University Park Campus, where he will study mechanical engineering and plans to be active in the Penn State Outing Club.

In Scouting, Cody is staying on as adult leader of Troop 111 in the role of assistant scoutmaster. He enjoys his leadership role and hopes to serve as inspiration to the younger Scouts in the troop.
