Plum hosts free Halloween drive-in movie at Larry Mills Park

Plum’s Larry Mills Park was haunted with laughter and the occasional screams of movie attendees as the borough presented its fifth and final movie this year.
About 100 people on Oct. 24 attended the free screening of “The Addams Family,” the 2019 animated version from directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan.
The park was set up like a drive-in theater with plenty of space for attendees to social distance. There were games and candy for children.
Trenton Harvey, 9, and Vincent Dilorenzo, 8, both of Harrison Township, dressed as Fortnite characters for the show. They ate some free popcorn from Plum Rotary and watched the film with relatives.
The borough hosted Halloween events at the community center and borough building in previous years.
Officials came up with the Halloween movie night so families could have something to do while social distancing and following other health and safety guidelines during the covid-19 pandemic.
“Normally, we’d have the kids get dressed up in their costumes and we’d do it in the council chambers,” Mayor Harry Schlegel said. “They come in. They get candy and sit there and watch a movie. We can’t do that. There’s a good turnout. There’s three rows (of cars in the park). Better than I’d thought.”
Plum school board member Joe Tommarello was in attendance with his girlfriend, Laurel Fischer.
“I always try to support anything that the borough does,” said Tommarello. “Always happy to come to the movie in the park. It’s a great event. A great thing not just for kids, but for all Plum families and all ages. It’s a great Halloween movie and something to do for Halloween in the borough.”
Fischer watched the movie on a foldout chair while covered in a blanket.
“It’s a little cold, but it’s worth it,” she said.
The borough showed four films this year as part of its Movies in the Park series, one more than previously planned due to popular demand.
Trick-or-treat in the borough is set for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
