State Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Penn Hills, announced that Plum Borough will receive a $73,203 grant to maintain and repair three existing residential retention ponds.

The borough plans to use the funding to award a contract to remove more than 4,400 tons of sediment from the retention ponds, clear overgrown vegetation and inspect the infrastructure to make any necessary repairs, according to DeLuca.

“This project will make sure the retention ponds are functioning properly to reduce flooding and stormwater pollution from storms,” the legislator said. “The removal of the built-up sediment could also reduce the impact the ponds have on two separate impaired streams.”

The Commonwealth Financing Authority administered the grant from its Watershed Restoration and Protection Program. The funds can be used for construction, improvement, expansion, repair, maintenance or rehabilitation of new or existing watershed protection best management practices.
