Plum Rotary gives $2K to support Plum EMS car seat, crib program
The Plum Rotary Club is supporting an effort to get car seats and cribs to families in need.
The club recently gave $2,000 to Plum Emergency Medical Services to support its child safety program, said Brian Maloney, director of operations for Plum EMS.
Plum EMS started its child safety program with car seat safety checks in November 2018 and started providing free car seats to families in need in May 2019. It began providing free cribs and safe-sleep education in late 2021 in partnership with Pittsburgh-based nonprofit Cribs for Kids.
Since its start, Plum EMS has completed more than 250 car seat safety checks, distributed more than 80 free car seats to families in need, and provided more than 20 cribs and safe-sleep education to families in need of a safe place for an infant to sleep.
Plum Rotary is looking into establishing a long-term partnership with the Plum EMS program to help keep it available to the Plum community and surrounding areas.
Erie Insurance gave Plum EMS a $3,500 grant for the program last year, Maloney said. G. Kidd Inc. has given more than $1,000, and a number of individual donations have helped to keep the program going.
Car seat safety checks are done by appointment only. To schedule, contact Maloney at 412-793-4801 or by email at operations@plumems.com.
