Things to do in Plum and Oakmont this week

Want to do something fun in Plum or Oakmont this week?

Here are some ideas:

• Oakmont Carnegie Library hosts a special Halloween themed Book Buddies Story Time 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at 700 Allegheny River Blvd.

It’s open to children ages birth to 5 with a caregiver. Children are encouraged to wear costumes and decorate a Halloween bag to trick-or-treat throughout the library.

• Sahaja Mediation is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Oakmont library. Instructor Marilyn Patete will lead the class on the basics of finding inner peace, balance and self-control.

Oakmont library programs are free and no registration is required. Call 412-828-9532 for more information about library programs.

• Plum Community Center offers line dancing classes 9:30 a.m. Thursday at 499 Center New Texas Road.

• Tai chi is scheduled for 6:30 p.m Wednesday at the community center.

• Mommy and Me Yoga is set for 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Plum center. Cost is $5 per class.

The class is designed for children ages birth through 5 years old with their parents or caregivers. Learn basic moves and stay for playtime and conversation after the class.

• The Oaks Theater hosts an Open Jam Halloween Party 8 p.m. Thursday at 310 Allegheny River Blvd.

Dress up in your best rock and roll or scary costume and hear some of Pittsburgh’s best musicians including house band 8mm with Greg Casile.
