With the start of the academic year, of course, comes the daily journey of students to and from their schools.

To help ensure that the missions are completed safely and efficiently, Plum Borough School District is hiring bus drivers.

A school district letter to community members details a shortage of drivers and outlines positions that need to be filled to achieve full staffing.

“Our ability to ensure fully functioning day-to-day operations, field trips and transportation services to and from extracurricular events will be impacted if we are unable to obtain more drivers,” the letter states, encouraging individuals to apply. “We will provide all of the training necessary at no cost.”

According to the letter, the base rate is $22.60 per hour, and overtime at $33.90 available beyond 40 hours per week for field trips and activity and athletic runs. Benefits include sick days and personal days; life, accident and disability insurance; medical insurance, participation in the Public School Employees’ Retirement System, and availability of union membership.

Application can be made at www.applitrack.com/pbsd/onlineapp. Contacts are Lisa Kraynak, district human resources specialist, at kraynakl@pbsd.net or 412-798-6350, and Scott Mergen, transportation director, at mergens@pbsd.net or 412-798-6369.
