A fire tore through a Wilkinsburg home early Saturday, trapping and killing two children, officials said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as a boy and a girl: Novad Arman Loveings, 7, and Brecc Loveings, 6.

The blaze broke out about 1:40 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of Shelbourne Avenue.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews, firefighters learned two people were trapped on the second floor of the home. Crews entered the home and found them unconscious.

“They were happy kids, real bright,” said Warren Jackson, who owns the house next door.

The Loveings children played with his kids, Jackson said. He remembered the children as having “great spirits.”

They were “rambunctious, always smiling all the time, happy, happy, happy,” Jackson said.

Jackson said their mother — who didn’t want her name to be shared publicly — was “a lady that loved her kids, just did everything for her kids.”

“It’s a sad, sad situation,” Jackson said.

A Pittsburgh firefighter was injured in a fall. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
