The investigation into a body found Dec. 26 in Shaler is still ongoing, according to Jim Madalinsky, public information officer for the Allegheny County Police.

Allegheny County detectives are investigating the body as a homicide because the victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the head, but Madalinsky said he could not offer more details as the investigation continues.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Andre Wallace of Millvale by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Few other details have surfaced since the discovery of Wallace’s body by a passerby the day after Christmas in a wooded area of Shaler, Madalinsky said Jan. 10.

County police issued a statement on Dec. 27 that said Wallace was dressed in multiple layers of clothing and was wearing a mask.

The body was reported about 2:30 p.m. in the woods off the 200 block of Hahn Road and transported to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

Shaler and Allegheny County police initially investigated, but the investigation has since been handed over to Allegheny County homicide detectives.

Hahn Road is flanked by woods on both sides with only a few homes. The nearest business is bus company ABC Transit.
