Cranberry Township police say a Shaler man stole over $4,000 worth of Pokemon and baseball cards from the Cranberry Target.
According to an affidavit, police have charged Grant Duss, 33, of Shaler after a Target employee provided officers with video and documentation of the alleged thefts.
Police said Duss engaged in “ticket-switching” or “barcode switching,” a type of theft in which someone places the UPC of a cheaper item over the UPC of a more expensive item.
Police allege that Duss always used a UPC for a 79-cent item when purchasing collectable Pokemon or professional sports trading cards. He would pay cash only for the small value of the UPCs he scanned, police said.
In the affidavit, police indicated nine days in December and January when they say the thefts occurred, and police said there were sometimes multiple thefts in one day. Police said Duss would change his clothes in his car and then re-enter the store up to five times at the same store on the same day.
A preliminary hearing is slated for June 30.
