A social media post about “shooting up” Central High School, not necessarily Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, is no longer a threat to the local all-boys, college prep school, according to Pittsburgh Police on Sunday.
Central Catholic officials alerted Pittsburgh Police about the threat Saturday on Snapchat.
Detectives with Western Pennsylvania All Hazards Fusion Center and Joint Terrorism Task Force immediately investigated the threat along with Pittsburgh’s Intelligence Unit, according to Eric Holmes, Pittsburgh Police Intelligence Unit Commander.
The threat targeted “Central High School” nationwide, police said.
“The generalized message, which was not a localized threat, has circulated out-of-state and there is no active threat at any Central High School in Pennsylvania,” police said in a press release Sunday.
Authorities arrested a suspect in Missouri who is now in custody, police said.
Central Catholic students and parents were told Sunday that students can safely return to school on Monday, according to a statement by Brother Tony Baginski, school principal.
To allay any concerns, the school will have increased security on campus on Monday through school and sports practices, Baginski said.
“The security and safety of our Central Catholic community is our top priority,” he said.
