1 dead after crash on I-70 in Washington County

A person died in a crash on Interstate 70 in Buffalo Township, Washington County, after losing control of their vehicle, according to Washington County coroner Tim Warco.

The crash happened around 3:22 a.m. Sunday morning, and the person died a little over an hour later at 4:30 a.m. Their identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The person who died was the only one in the vecicle, which was traveling eastbound on I-70 when they lost control, hit a tree, and the vehicle caught fire, near Mile Marker 11.

Police do not yet know if the person was wearing a seatbelt.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.

Claysville Fire Department, South Franklin Fire Department, Ambulance and Chair Service, and PennDOT all responded to the scene.
