Allegheny Health Network opens cancer center in Beaver County

Allegheny Health Network officially opened its new cancer center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday in Beaver County.

AHN Cancer Institute – Beaver is located in Center Township and provides clinical and support services, including radiation oncology capabilities, medical oncology and infusion therapy, nutritional counseling, social services and access to cancer clinical trials.

The center is part of a $300 million investment in cancer services by Highmark Health and AHN that includes a new academic cancer center at Allegheny General Hospital and multiple new community-based cancer treatment facilities.

“AHN Cancer Institute-Beaver brings high-quality, comprehensive cancer care to a location that is most convenient to our patients and their families, and we look forward to the tremendous difference it will make for all who require its services,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, AHN’s President and Chief Executive Officer in a press release.

The center’s décor uses natural light and soft colors to create a calming atmosphere for patients and their families, with quiet exam rooms and comfortable waiting areas.

AHN officials said cancer diagnoses are rising and in turn the need for better cancer screening, treatment and surveillance will also rise.

“We are bringing the same cancer-fighting capabilities that we offer at our urban, flagship hospitals to local communities, because we believe that patients have better outcomes overall – clinically, emotionally and financially – when they have close-to-home access to the high-quality care they need, regardless of where they live,” said Dr. David Parda, chair of the AHN Cancer Institute.

The facility is the network’s third new community cancer center to open this year, following the opening of the AHN Forbes Outpatient Center in Monroeville in February and AHN Cancer Institute – Butler in March. New centers in Erie and Hempfield will open later this year.
