Ambridge Area School District officials announced the closure of two district buildings because of a high number of covid-19 cases.
Students at the high school and middle school will participate in online learning for a week after the Pennsylvania Department of Health advised the closure of the buildings because of the cases, Superintendent Joseph Pasquerilla said in a letter. The schools are closed starting Wednesday. They will reopen next Wednesday.
“The welfare, health and safety of our students, staff and visitors is of the utmost importance to the Ambridge Area School District,” Pasquerilla wrote. “We have developed rigorous guidelines, procured necessary supplies, and held staff trainings to do everything possible to meet this goal.”
It was not clear how many covid cases were reported in each of the school buildings.
During the shutdown all extracurricular activities are canceled. A Mistletoe Dance is rescheduled for next Saturday.
Economy, Highland and State Street elementary schools will continue to operate as normal.
“Please remain vigilant against this public health threat which is circulating in our community,” Pasquerilla said. “Together, we can work to prevent the spread of this virus and stand ready to do so.”
