The annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway is set to donate 140,000 backpacks full of school supplies this weekend.

Round Room LLC, a Verizon Wireless retailer, announced its TCC and Wireless Zone stores will give away school supplies at over 800 locations nationwide. This year will mark more than 1 million backpacks donated through the program over the last eight years.

Families can visit a participating location to receive a backpack filled with supplies, including pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders and glue.

Backpacks will be available at several Pittsburgh sites on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Locations include:

  • 4815 Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh
  • 4225 Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh
  • 1600 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon
  • Ross Park Mall in Ross
  • 4655 William Flynn Highway in Allison Park
  • 539 Beaver Street in Sewickley
  • 1000 Village Run Road in Wexford
  • 2030 Mackenzie Way in Cranberry

To limit the amount of people at the event, children do not need to be present to pick up the backpack. Families can receive one bag per student on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

Each location will donate up to 180 backpacks, with surplus supplies going to local schools.

TCC also will award five $10,000 college scholarships as part of its Big Impact program. Students in grades K-12 can enter for the scholarship during the backpack giveaway event. Entries will be accepted from July 24-31.
