A Butler County mall security guard was dragged by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon while trying to stop the theft of Easter decorations.

State police said they responded to Clearview Mall in Center Township around 3:45 p.m. after receiving a report that people had stolen a 3-foot foam carrot and piñata from the mall’s Easter display.

A mall security guard told police that he chased the suspects into the parking lot outside Texas Roadhouse, where they got into a dark red Chevy pickup, police said.

The security guard tried to stop the suspects by opening a truck door, but was dragged for a quarter-mile at about 35 mph, police said. The security guard was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police in Butler.
