The Champions in Action Program is calling on Western Pennsylvania nonprofits to apply for a $35,000 grant package with volunteer assistance and Trib Total Media coverage.
Champions in Action, sponsored by Citizens Bank, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares, identifies, promotes and rewards local nonprofits serving the community .
Last month, Citizens, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares honored the Center of Life, naming the Hazelwood nonprofit a Champion in Action. Center of Life was honored because it collaborated with other nonprofits to deliver almost 200,000 meals, distribute more than 1,000 face masks and launch a community learning hub at Spartan Community Center in Hazelwood.
The current Champions grant will be awarded to a nonprofit working on social equity locally through education, advocacy and programming.
The deadline to apply is February 26. The winner will be announced in July.
To be eligible, nonprofits must be based in Western Pennsylvania and focused on social equity and inclusion gaps. Applicants must provide verification of tax-exempt status and have a total operating budget of $5 million or less.
Champions in Action changes its area of focus for grant awards. Nonprofits named as a Champion in Action typically collaborate with partners, neighborhood groups, schools and others on a range of issues impacting local communities.

Since 2002, Champions in Action, has awarded $9.9 million in grant to more than 350 recipients.
