Connellsville man arrested for Vanderbilt bank robbery
A Connellsville man is charged with robbing a Vanderbilt bank on Friday, state police said.
Donald Ray Homer Jr., 56, is facing two counts of robbery, two counts of terroristic threats and one count each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to a criminal complaint against him.
Homer is accused of walking into the Scottdale Bank & Trust, 704 Main St., Vanderbilt, on Friday afternoon and giving the bank teller a note that read, “Give me money got gun don’t due anything stupit [sic].”
Homer allegedly said, “Do you understand?” and “I’m in a hurry,” according to a complaint filed by Trooper Michael Doriguzzi of the Uniontown station.
The teller gave the man what she had in her cash drawer. The robber fled the scene on foot, walking south along Route 201 through Vanderbilt.
Police were able to identify Homer using the bank’s surveillance video and tips from the public. A Connellsville police officer recognized Homer from the video and contacted state police, the complaint said.
Homer was arrested later the same day at the Connellsville Walmart.
He was arraigned before Connellsville District Judge Ronald Haggerty on Saturday and is in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
