A driver was killed Thursday when two pickup trucks collided head-on in Indiana County.

Andrew David Johnston, 25, of South Mahoning Township, Indiana County, was pronounced dead following the wreck that occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on Route 954 in Center Township. The cause of death was pending, according to Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr.

Johnston was driving a Chevrolet Silverado near the intersection of Snyder Road when the pickup was struck by a Toyota Tundra that was headed in the opposite direction and crossed the center line, Overman said.

That section of Route 954 “was very hazardous and slick,” Overman said. “It was stated the operator of the Toyota lost control due to the slick road surface.”

He said Johnston, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

Officials didn’t reveal the identify of the driver of the Toyota. Information about the crash wasn’t available from state police on Friday.
