It will take some time before authorities can come to an official conclusion about what led to the death of 17-year-old Kaitlin Whoolery, according to Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele.

Whoolery’s remains were found this month in North Union, months after she was last seen in November. Local authorities are working with a forensic anthropologist from Mercyhurst University to further process the remains after an autopsy was completed last week.

“Unfortunately, this process will probably take much longer than identification,” Aubele said.

Skeletal remains were found in North Union on April 16 and investigators confirmed this week they belonged to Whoolery. She was last seen Nov. 23.

Her remains were discovered in the area of Washington Avenue and Hogsett Lane near a set of train tracks and a stream. The site is not far from Laurel Highlands High School just north of Uniontown.

Aubele said the findings of the forensic anthropologist and the autopsy will be compared with information investigators have gotten, as well as any tips. Anyone with information is asked to contact the district attorney’s office at 724-430-1245 or Crime Stoppers of Fayette County at 724-437-8477 or info@crimestoppersfayettecopa.org.
