One firefighter was reported injured Thursday morning battling a large fire at an auto salvage yard in rural Fayette County, according to a spokesperson with the county emergency management department.

More than a dozen area fire departments including tankers from southern Westmoreland County have responded to the fire at Marsh Auto Salvage on Banning Road in Lower Tyrone Township, near Dawson, the dispatcher reported.

The fire was reported at 11:42 a.m., she said.

The firefighter was transported to an undisclosed hospital, she added.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 4 p.m.
