Large hail, damaging wind possible with severe storms Monday, weather service says
Much of southwestern Pennsylvania is at a slight risk for severe thunderstorms on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The highest overall severe risk will be near and south of Latrobe, Pittsburgh and New Philadelphia. The risk decreases for counties north and east of Allegheny County, according to an update the weather service issued Sunday afternoon.
Severe weather is expected between 4 and 9 p.m. Monday.
Large hail and damaging wind will be possible with any severe storm, the weather service said. Tornadoes are also possible, especially in some areas south of Interstate 70, with a higher tornado risk in parts of northern West Virginia and southeast Ohio.
The amount of cloud cover during the day on Monday will play a role in determining how large the severe threat ends up being, the weather service said. Residents are advised to check for updates through the day Monday and be prepared for watches and warnings to be issued.
After a forecast high of 70 on Monday, a high temperature of 50 degrees is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, after which highs are forecast to rise into the 60s and 70s through the next two weeks.
