Wreaths Across America, a national nonprofit organization best knows for placing wreaths at the graves of military veterans, will bring its traveling exhibit to Butler County on June 21.

Wreaths Across America’s traveling exhibit to honor veterans will be hosting a free event in Butler County on June 21.

The national organization’s Mobile Education Exhibit serves as a traveling museum to educate visitors about the service and sacrifice of the nation’s military service members. The mobile unit also is an official “welcome home” station for the nation’s Vietnam War veterans.

“The goal of the Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit is to bring community together and teach patriotism while remembering the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of the nonprofit organization based in Columbia Falls, Maine.

“However, over the last year, in light of the current health crisis, we feel this exhibit has taken on even more meaning by providing the opportunity for people to safely participate in something that is both educational and inspiring, while supporting and giving back to the communities it visits,” she said.

The event in Butler County is being hosted by the General Richard Butler Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Free tours of the mobile museum will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sam’s Club store in the Moraine Pointe Plaza shopping center.

Visitors to the exhibit also can sponsor the placement a wreath from a balsam fir tree at the headstone of a military veteran buried in the North Side Cemetery in Butler. The cost to sponsor a wreath is $15.

The wreaths will be placed at grave sites during a Dec. 18 ceremony to mark National Wreaths Across America Day.
