Mon/Yough Trail Council to host 11th annual fundraiser half marathon, 5K on Great Allegheny Passage

The Mon/Yough Trail Council will host its 11th annual Boston Trail Half Marathon and 5K along the Great Allegheny Passage on April 12.

The half marathon run will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K run and walk at 9:15 a.m. Both races will begin at the Boston access of the trail, along Donner Street in Elizabeth.

The event will raise money for the Mon/Yough Trail Council, which maintains a 15-mile section of the Great Allegheny Passage in Allegheny County.

The trail — which extends 150 miles from Cumberland, Md., to Pittsburgh — is a flat, crushed limestone surface. Hydration and aid stations will be available every 2 miles of the course until 1 p.m.

Because parking is limited at the Boston access, participants can also park at the Boston Spectrum — located along Smithfield Street in Elizabeth. Participants can store their belongings at the Boston access during the race.

Race packet pick up will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. the day of the race.

Participants must register before March 23 to receive an event T-shirt and early bird pricing — $45 for the half marathon and $30 for the 5K. Online registration closes at midnight April 10. To register, visit thebostontrail.com.

The half marathon course is certified by USA Track & Field. Medals will be given to the top three overall and age group finishers for both men’s and women’s divisions.

Those who identify as nonbinary or prefer not to select a gender can enter in the open division. The top three open division finishers will receive a medal.
