Police release latest South Side patrol report

There were “relatively smaller crowds” in Pittsburgh’s South Side entertainment district over the weekend because of the cold temperatures and snowfall, city police said.

Still, the South Side Entertainment Patrol responsible for maintaining safety in the area conducted six traffic stops, towed 17 vehicles and issued 62 parking citations and 5 non-traffic citations.

Police also made one arrest for obstruction of the administration of law.

The non-traffic citations were for public urination and open containers, police said.

Since July, the special patrol — which focuses on areas along and near East Carson Street — has made 96 arrests, recovered 18 guns, made over 200 traffic stops and written more than 1,000 citations.

Police and South Side stakeholders last week lauded the crackdown, saying it has improved safety in an area that has been criticized for becoming violent and unruly.
