Gov. Josh Shapiro has ordered all United States and Pennsylvania flags on public buildings and ground to be flown at half-mast in honor of the victims of the terroristic attack on Israel by terrorists.

Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 11:

Flags ordered to fly at half-staff for Israeli victims

Gov. Josh Shapiro on Tuesday issued an order that the U.S. and Pennsylvania flags on all public buildings and grounds be flown at half-staff this week in recognition of the lives lost in Israel during the terrorist attack by Hamas.

“I condemn the horrific acts of war in Israel by Hamas and their enablers,” Shapiro said. “These attacks on innocent Israeli civilians are abhorrent and warrant world condemnation and outrage.

“Our family has shared many special moments in Israel and our hearts break for those living this horror now. We stand in solidarity against terror and are praying for all people in Israel.”

2 men arrested at Pittsburgh Greyhound station

Two men were accused of stabbing and biting a man Tuesday during a fight that started on a bus and continued when it pulled into the Greyhound terminal on 11th Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, according to authorities.

Pittsburgh police said they responded to the terminal at about 7:30 a.m. and found a 27-year-old man with a stab wound to the arm and a human bite mark on his back. He was in stable condition when he was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Police arrested Arick Carles, 24, and Janson Arsenault, 31, outside the bus station and charged them with aggravated assault, recklessly endangerment and harassment.

Carles was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Arsenault was treated at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Uptown for a bite wound on his finger before being taken to the jail, police said.

U.S. attorney in Pittsburgh named to advisory panel

U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland announced the appointment of Eric Olshan, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, to serve on a seven member panel.

Olshan, who was appointed to lead the Western District office in June will serve on the advisory council with U.S. Attorneys from New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Virginia. Gary Restaino, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, was named as the committee’s vice chairman.

“United States Attorneys work every day throughout the country to advance our mission of upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights,” Garland said in a news release announcing the appointments. “I am grateful for the perspective the newest members of the committee will provide on behalf of federal prosecutors across the country and the communities they serve.”

The Attorney General’s Advisory Committee was created in 1973 to provide the nation’s top law enforcement officer with guidance on matters of policy, procedure and management that impact their offices, Garland said.
