Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Thursday, Jan. 18:

The Pittsburgh area could see a few inches of snow in the coming days, with a “winter weather advisory” in effect for most of southwestern Pennsylvania from 1 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Moon.

Scattered snow flurries are expected Thursday morning, with highs near 30 degrees, meteorologist Lee Hendricks told TribLive. The region has not registered a temperature above freezing — 32 degrees Fahrenheit — since Jan. 13.

Snow is expected after midnight Thursday into Friday, with accumulations of about an inch by sunrise, Hendricks said. Chance of snow is near 100%. Lows will linger in the lower 20s.

Snow will continue Friday, with accumulations around three inches, Hendricks said. Chance of snow, again, is near 100%. Additional snow is expected Friday night, with a slightly lower chance of snow — about 70%.

There likely will be larger snow accumulations — possibly up to six or more inches of snow — in the elevated ridges of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

There’s just a 50% chance of snow for Saturday, with “little or no accumulation,” Hendricks said. The highs will be about 19 degrees.

The rest of the weekend will be dry, Hendricks said. The next chance of rain or snow comes Tuesday, when highs are expected in the lower 40s.

A fire late Wednesday has shuttered a Butler County butcher shop.

Multiple crews responded when a fire broke out at about 10 p.m. at Miller’s Quality Meats in Butler, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Butler County 911 dispatchers told WTAE that no injuries were reported.

In a social media post early Thursday, shop owners said Miller’s will be closed for extended period due to the fire, which they said caused “significant damage” to the North Main Street business.

There was no initial word on the cause of the fire, WTAE reported.

A multi-vehicle crash was reported during the Thursday morning commute on the Parkway East.

The crash was reported at about 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 376, near mile marker 78.5, according to the state’s 511 service.

There is a lane restriction in effect, according to 511. It is unclear if any injuries were reported.

The nearest exit to the crash is for Wilkinsburg and northbound Route 8, according to an online Interstate 376 exit guide.
