Weekend winds knock out power in Western Pa.

Power outages stemming from high winds over the weekend were impacting several schools in the Pittsburgh area Monday morning.

Duquesne Light and West Penn Power were reporting thousands of customers without service.

As of about 5:30 a.m., Duquesne Light reported about 4,500 customers affected, primarily in Allegheny and Beaver counties.

In the Pittsburgh area, West Penn Power was reporting nearly 1,000 customers affected in Butler County, just over 900 in Allegheny County, about 250 in Armstrong County, 240 in Washington County, about 220 in Beaver County, and about 150 in Westmoreland County.

Several school districts have reported closures Monday because of the outages. A list is available from Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

4 hurt in dog bite incident

Four people were hurt in a dog bite incident Sunday night in Pittsburgh.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers found two girls and a woman with dog bites around 7:20 p.m. in an area near the 30 block of Hillburn Street.

All three were taken to a hospital.

Police said a man living nearby incurred a shoulder injury when he tried to help, and was also taken to a hospital.

Police said Animal Control will investigate.

Driver flees from state police in Butler County 

State police are investigating after a vehicle fled from an attempted traffic stop Sunday night in Butler County.

According to state police, a trooper tried to stop a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala around 6:45 p.m. after it ran a read light on Pittsburgh Road at Dinnerbell Road in Penn Township.

Police said the car immediately accelerated and fled south on Pittsburgh Road. The pursuit was ended on Pittsburgh Road at Spencer Lane in Shaler.

Apartment fire in Washington County

Crews responded to a fire early Monday morning at an apartment building in Washington County.

The fire at 351 Locust Ave. in Washington was reported around 4:25 a.m.

A person was reported to be having trouble breathing, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reported.

Residents told WPXI that the fire started on the first floor of the eight-unit building.
