Nov. 20: Here is covid-19 data from select Western Pa. colleges

Western Pennsylvania is home community to several colleges and universities, attracting students from around the state and country. During the coronavirus pandemic, many are tracking the number of positive covid-19 cases as they emerge on campus.

University of Pittsburgh

Enrollment: About 30,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 98 student cases and 12 employee cases reported since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: 179 beds. There are 78 students in isolation, 60 less than last week.

Total confirmed cases: 587 students and 42 faculty and staff since Aug. 1

University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg Campus

Enrollment: About 1,500

Number of active cases: There were three student cases and two employee cases reported since last Friday.

Total confirmed cases: Nine students and four employees since Aug. 1

Carnegie Mellon University

Enrollment: About 14,000 students

Number of new cases: There were four new student cases reported since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: According to a university spokesman, the exact number of beds available depends upon the timing and circumstances of the need, as many students are already in private rooms.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 110 student cases so far this semester, and 114 student cases since March (on- and off-campus).

Chatham University

Enrollment: About 2,300

Number of new cases: There have been 10 new student cases since last Wednesday (as of Nov. 18).

Isolation bed capacity: 40 rooms. Three spaces are in use.

Total confirmed cases: Sixty-seven students and three employees since Aug. 17. Thirty are residents, and 37 are commuter students.

Point Park University

Enrollment: About 4,100

Number of new cases: There were three new student cases and one employee case reported since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: 32 beds. There are four students in isolation/quarantine. All are active cases.

Total confirmed cases: 37 students and three employees since Aug. 30. Twenty-six are commuter students and 11 are residents.

Duquesne University

Enrollment: About 9,500 students

Number of new cases: There were 24 new cases since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: There are 11 students in isolation on campus, 24 less than last week; and 32 students in quarantine at a hotel, 29 less than last week.

Total confirmed cases: There has been a cumulative total of 281 student cases this semester.

Robert Morris University

Enrollment: About 5,300

Number of new cases: There were 22 new cases since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: 39 students are in isolation; 232 are in quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: 119 cases since Aug. 21

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Enrollment: About 12,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 60 new cases among students since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: 170 beds. There are 10 students in isolation.

Total confirmed cases: 451 students since the fall semester began. There have been 385 recoveries.

Seton Hill University

Enrollment: About 1,700

Number of new cases: There were 16 new student cases since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: 21 beds

Total confirmed cases: 88 students since Aug. 17, including 32 commuters and 56 residents.

Slippery Rock University

Enrollment: About 9,000 students

Number of new cases: There were six new student cases added since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: There are 39 students in isolation, 16 more than last week; and 38 in quarantine, 11 more than last week.
