Oct. 2: Here is covid-19 data from Western Pa. colleges

Western Pennsylvania is home to several colleges and universities, attracting students from around the state and country. During the coronavirus pandemic, many are tracking the number of positive covid-19 cases as they emerge on campus.

University of Pittsburgh

Enrollment: Approximately 35,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 24 new student cases and one new employee case added this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: 179 beds. There are 39 students in isolation, down from 51 last week.

Total confirmed cases: 253 students and 13 faculty and staff since Aug. 1

University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg Campus

Enrollment: Approximately 1,500

Number of active cases: There were two new student cases and one new employee case this week (as of Oct. 2)

Total confirmed cases: Two student and one employee since Aug. 1

Carnegie Mellon University

Enrollment: Approximately 14,000 students

Number of new cases: There were no cases confirmed this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: According to a university spokesman, the exact number of beds available depends upon the timing and circumstances of the need, as many students are already in private rooms.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 50 student cases so far this semester, and 56 student cases since March (on- and off-campus).

Chatham University

Enrollment: Approximately 2,300

Number of new cases: One new student case was added this week (as of Oct. 1).

Isolation bed capacity: 40 rooms. Three spaces are in use.

Point Park University

Enrollment: Approximately 4,100

Number of new cases: There were three new student cases added this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: There are nine students in isolation/quarantine, a decrease of 25 students from last week.

Total confirmed cases: 15 students and one employee since Aug. 30. Ten are commuter students.

Duquesne University

Enrollment: Approximately 9,500 students

Number of new cases: There were 18 new student cases added this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 13 students in isolation on campus, up by ten from last Friday, and 63 students in quarantine at a hotel, up by 58 from last Friday (as of Oct. 2).

Total confirmed cases: 30 students

Robert Morris University

Enrollment: Approximately 5,300

Number of new cases: One new case was recorded this week (as of Oct. 2)

Isolation bed capacity: One student is in isolation, 17 are in quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: Nine students since Aug. 21

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Enrollment: Approximately 12,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 43 new cases among students this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: 170 beds. Nineteen students are in isolation, up from thirteen last week.

Total confirmed cases: 214 students and employees since the fall semester began. There have been 111 recoveries.

Seton Hill University

Enrollment: Approximately 1,700

Number of new cases: No new student cases were added this week (as of Oct. 2).

Isolation bed capacity: 21 beds

Total confirmed cases: Eight students since Aug. 17, one commuter and seven residents.

Slippery Rock University

Enrollment: Approximately 9,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 20 new student cases added this week (Sept. 25-Oct. 1).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 27 students in isolation, a decrease of 19, and 69 in quarantine, a decrease of 20.
