Oct. 23: Here is covid-19 data from Western Pa. colleges

Western Pennsylvania is home community to several colleges and universities, attracting students from around the state and country. During the coronavirus pandemic, many are tracking the number of positive covid-19 cases as they emerge on campus.

University of Pittsburgh

Enrollment: Approximately 35,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 17 new student cases added this week (as of Oct. 23).

Isolation bed capacity: 179 beds. There are 17 students in isolation.

Total confirmed cases: 297 students and 17 faculty and staff since Aug. 1

University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg Campus

Enrollment: Approximately 1,500

Number of active cases: There was no new student cases this week (as of Oct. 23)

Total confirmed cases: Five students and two employees since Aug. 1

Carnegie Mellon University

Enrollment: Approximately 14,000 students

Number of new cases: There were seven new student case this week (as of Oct. 23).

Isolation bed capacity: According to a university spokesman, the exact number of beds available depends upon the timing and circumstances of the need, as many students are already in private rooms.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 69 student cases so far this semester, and 73 student cases since March (on- and off-campus).

Chatham University

Enrollment: Approximately 2,300

Isolation bed capacity: 40 rooms. Twenty-nine spaces are in use.

Total confirmed cases: Forty-five students since Aug. 17. Twenty-four are residents, and 21 are commuter students.

Point Park University

Enrollment: Approximately 4,100

Isolation bed capacity: 32 beds. There are four students in isolation/quarantine. One is an active case.

Total confirmed cases: 19 students and one employee since Aug. 30. Fourteen are commuter students.

Duquesne University

Enrollment: Approximately 9,500 students

Isolation bed capacity: There are 30 students in isolation on campus, and 54 students in quarantine at a hotel (as of Oct. 22).

Robert Morris University

Enrollment: Approximately 5,300

Isolation bed capacity: One student is in isolation; 16 are in quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: Fifteen students since Aug. 21

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Enrollment: Approximately 12,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 22 new cases among students this week (as of Oct. 23).

Isolation bed capacity: 170 beds. There are 12 students in isolation.

Total confirmed cases: 285 students and employees since the fall semester began. There have been 252 recoveries.

Seton Hill University

Enrollment: Approximately 1,700

Number of cases: There are 16 active positive cases (as of Oct. 23).

Isolation bed capacity: 21 beds

Total confirmed cases: Forty-eight students since Aug. 17, including eight commuters and 40 residents.

Slippery Rock University

Enrollment: Approximately 9,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 20 new student cases added this week (Oct. 15-21).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 42 students in isolation, and 63 in quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: 175 students since Aug. 20
