Freezing rain is expected make its way across the region Wednesday evening, with Westmoreland and Fayette counties getting the brunt of bad weather.

The chance of precipitation in the area is near 100%, with freezing rain falling mostly after midnight, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service in Moon. A winter weather advisory is in effect through 4 a.m. Thursday.

Ice accumulations will reach a tenth of an inch, the forecast said. Low temperatures will settle around 30.

“We’re looking at the chance for freezing rain in the Appalachian ridges, and it will remain high there and in the northern counties,” said Liana Lupo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon.

Not much change to the freezing rain forecast for tonight/early Thursday.

People in Allegheny County won’t face the same concerns.

The chance of snow in the area lingers around 20%, a forecast said. Most of the county has a low probability of seeing freezing rain.

The northeastern portion of Allegheny County could see a 10% to 20% chance of ice accumulation.

Butler and Latrobe will each see about an 80% chance of 0.01-inch of ice accumulation.

Rush hour Thursday morning shouldn’t be a concern, Lupo said.

Temperatures will climb close to 40 degrees with rain forecast mainly in Thursday morning. The chance of rain Thursday is about 90%, the weather service said.

Friday will remain mostly clear, with highs in the mid 30s, the forecast said. There’s a chance of snow in the morning, then rain possibly could fall in the afternoon.

Rain is expected again Saturday night, when temperatures will rise into the upper 30s after midnight, the forecast said.
