Penn State Extension will present a one-day conference on growing industrial hemp on Feb. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Chadwick in McCandless.

The conference will focus on planting, growing and harvesting industrial hemp. Hemp was designated a legal crop in the 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Bill.

There were more than 350 permitted growers for the 2019 season, according to Penn State.

Jeffrey Fowler, a Penn State extension educator who is coordinating the event, said the conference will include information on hemp fiber, grain and production of cannabidiol (CBD) oil as well as plant health and nutrition.

Speakers include Penn State faculty and staff who spent time in the field watching and learning from some hemp producers. A panel of producers will talk about their experiences in 2019 and what they will do differently next year.

The cost is $75. For more information, visit the Penn State Extension website.

The Chadwick is located at 10545 Perry Highway in Wexford.
