Ray Alincic and his wife, Pat, managers of Station Cafe, prepare a fish sandwich during last year’s fish fry season.

It’s about to get fishy around here.

It’s the scent and flavor that fuels many a volunteer fire department, church and social club budget for the year — fried fish. The 2020 fish fry season is finally here.

Many organizations are gearing up for their annual fundraisers, most beginning on or shortly after Ash Wednesday and continuing on Fridays through Lent.

Menus include fried or baked fish, sandwiches and favorite sides such as french fries, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. A few have expanded their offerings, with shrimp, chicken wings or clams and sides like pierogis, haluski or hush puppies.

The dinners are fun, delicious and give one a chance to catch up and socialize a bit with friends and neighbors after a long winter.

In addition, they help the hosting nonprofits keep doing their important work. So dig in, enjoy, it’s a good taste for many a good cause. Don’t see your organization’s fish fry listed? Send the information to features@tribweb.com and we’ll add it.
