An Aliquippa man Friday was charged with shooting and killing another man last month in Beaver County, authorities said.

Javonte Eric Simmons, 24, remained in the Beaver County Prison on Sunday after being denied bond.

He faces charges of homicide, tampering with evidence and a firearms violation in connection with the death of Richard Jackson, 31, also of Aliquippa.

State police at the Beaver barracks said the shooting occurred just before 7:15 p.m. Nov. 25 in the area of Cooper Street in the city. Aliquippa police were called to the area for reports of shots being fired. When they arrived, they found Jackson dead from multiple gunshot wounds, troopers said.

Troopers were called to assist with the investigation and were able to obtain information that lead to the arrest of Simmons.

A preliminary hearing for Simmons is set for Dec. 19.
