A woman was shot and killed and her son wounded Monday during a home invasion in Washington County, state police said.

Renee Lynn Gill, 37, was shot at around 1:15 a.m. inside her residence on Eleanor Street in Smith Township. She died at 5:01 a.m. inside her home, according to the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

Multiple males — dressed all in black clothing and wearing masks — entered the residence, police said. An argument occurred between the suspects and Gill when they entered.

During the altercation, one of the men shot Gill and her son, according to police. Gill was eventually pronounced dead on the scene by medical professionals. Her son was taken to a nearby hospital.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

The killing is under investigation by Smith Township Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police Troop B and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information about the homicide should call state police in Washington County at 724-223-5200.
