Police: Washington County man flees traffic stop, crashes into 2 houses

A Washington man caught driving without a license plate fled state police for about a mile early Thursday, hitting multiple parked vehicles and two houses, according to police.
Troopers were on patrol on Fayette Street and Baird Avenue in Washington County’s Canton Township when a white GMC Sierra Denali without a plate drove by. Police said they tried to pull over the SUV but the driver did not stop, leading police on a pursuit of about a mile that ended in the 400 block of East Wayne Street where the SUV crashed into two houses.
One of the houses was vacant, and the people who lived in the other house weren’t injured.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Akili Racheed Sutton, 40, was hurt in the crash and taken to a hospital.
Police filed charges including receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension and fleeing and eluding police, all felonies, along with drunken driving and a slew of traffic offenses against Sutton, police said.
