A procession for slain McKeesport police Officer Sean Sluganski will close several roads as it winds from the South Hills and the Mon Valley on Tuesday.
The procession will start at the funeral in Baldwin borough, travel through McKeesport, and finish at a cemetery in Pleasant Hills, Allegheny County spokesperson Amie Downs said. The route will be closed during the time of the procession, so residents should expect some closures from about 2 to 5 p.m.
A Funeral Mass for Sluganski will take place at noon Tuesday at St. Albert the Great Church in Baldwin.
The funeral is invitation-only and not open to the public.
The procession route will start at St. Albert the Great Blessed Trinity Parish on Schieck Road and continue onto Churchview before then turning onto Brownsville Road. From there, it take Brownsville to southbound Route 51, aka Clairton Boulevard, Downs said.
It will continue onto Lebanon Church Road heading eastbound and then cross the Mansfield Bridge. After the bridge, it will make a left onto West Fifth Avenue into McKeesport, she said. After that, it will make a right-hand turn onto Walnut, a left onto Eden Park Boulevard, and then another left onto East Fifth Avenue.
The procession will circle through McKeesport and return from the way it came. It will then continue down Lebanon Church Rd to Jefferson Memorial Cemetery on Curry Hollow Road in Pleasant Hills, Downs said.
Sluganski, 32, of McKeesport was killed in the line of duty Feb. 6 while responding to a domestic/mental health incident in the city. A second McKeesport Police officer, Chuck Thomas, was wounded.
