Saturday morning snow disrupts travel across Western Pa.
Roads throughout Western Pennsylvania were closed or saw traffic restrictions as a result of early morning storm that dumped an inch or two of snow throughout the region.
Emergency dispatchers in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties reported numerous crashes. Route 30 near Greengate Center in Hempfield was among the roadways where weather-related conditions limited traffic, according to a Westmoreland County dispatcher.
“There were no injuries reported, but there are a lot of accidents. There’s no sign of PennDOT out there,” according to a Westmoreland dispatcher.
Other communities including North Huntingdon advised residents to stay off the roads until conditions improved.
PennDOT restricted speed limits to 45 mph on several roadways throughout the region, including Interstates 79 and 376 in Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties and said crews have been out Saturday morning working to clear the roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a winter weather advisory is issued until 11 a.m., in which one to two inches of snow could fall over the region. Temperatures are then expected to rise with precipitation turning to rain throughout the afternoon and evening.
Rain is predicted to continue into Sunday, until a cold front could signal the return of snow later in the day.
