A Jeannette man is accused of breaking into vehicles and stealing an SUV at Seven Springs Mountain Resort on Saturday.

State police charged Michael Lee Curtis, 32, with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property. He is also charged with driving under the influence, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of prohibited offensive weapons.

State police responded around 9:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of widespread vehicle break-ins at the resort.

A wide range of items were reported to have been stolen including digital cameras, skis, child booster seats, personal documents and electronics, state police said. A 2023 Ford Escape was stolen from the parking lot.

Many of the items taken were found in a vehicle in the main parking lot, police said.

State police troopers found the stolen SUV and arrested the driver, Curtis, who they said was intoxicated. Items from the break-ins were also found in the SUV, police said.

Curtis was arraigned Sunday morning and sent to the Somerset County Jail on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 21, according to court records.

Anyone with additional information or believes they were a victim of theft at Seven Springs is asked to contact state police Trooper David Waldschmidt of the Somerset barracks at 814-445-4104.
