A FedEx driver dumped packages in a ditch instead of delivering them to their rightful owners Saturday afternoon in Mercer County, state police said.

State police with the Mercer station say the incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. along Horvath Road in Lackawannock Township.

Troopers said a witness saw a man in a FedEx uniform throwing packages from a Penske truck into a ditch along the road. When the witness confronted the man about what he was doing, the man said he would pick up the packages, but then drove off without them, troopers said.

According to troopers, the scanned tracking numbers associated with the packages said the driver had indicated that they had been delivered to customers porches before he discarded them along the road.

Police didn’t identify the driver.

The packages were recovered and returned to FedEx for delivery, troopers said.

Charges against the driver are pending a final tally on the value of all the packages, state police said.
