The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down Saturday in Washington County.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has confirmed a tornado touched down Saturday in South Franklin Township in Washington County.

An NWS storm survey determined an EF-1 tornado with weed speeds estimated at around 105 miles per hour struck the area.

This marks the 16th tornado to impact Washington County since 1950. The last tornado in the area was an EF-2 tornado that crossed into Washington County from the northern West Virginia panhandle on Aug. 1, 2022, according to the service.

A tornado also touched down Saturday in Wheeling Township in Belmont County, Ohio, the NWS reported.

More storms are anticipated Monday. According to the NWS, there’s “potential for scattered strong to severe storms,” which are expected to move into the region after 3 p.m. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall, the NWS predicted, and there could be a flood threat.
