3 tornadoes confirmed in region, power being restored
Radar confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in the region Thursday evening and National Weather Service surveyors will spend the next couple days gathering information about them and other potential twisters, according to meteorologist Jason Frazier.
Those tornadoes were near Mt. Nebo and Hampton in Allegheny County and Buffalo Township in Washington County. Frazier said there could be additional twisters, but determinations will be made later once surveyors can check out damage on site.
“It will be a busy few days,” he said.
Power was restored to some throughout the region overnight after storms swept through the area Thursday evening, but other areas north of Pittsburgh remained in the dark. There were about 900 customers in Hampton without power Friday at 8 a.m., according to Duquesne Light. About 400 others in Ross, McCandless and Ohio Township areas were still without electricity.
