Upcoming blood drives in Western Pennsylvania

The American Red Cross is urging people to donate blood to ensure there is enough blood available for trauma patients as part of Trauma Awareness Month in May.

The Red Cross said major traumas can quickly deplete a hospital’s blood supply since one trauma patient could use as much as 100 units of blood.

Donors of all blood types are urged to make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross blood donor app, visiting www.redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Anyone who donates blood, platelets or plasma with the Red Cross May 1 through June 10 will receive a $5 Amazon gift card via email.
