Western Pa. picked baby names Oliver, Olivia most in 2024
When it comes to baby names, the O’s have it.
Across Allegheny Health Network in Western Pennsylvania, O names rose to the top of people’s lists in 2024 — specifically Oliver for boys and Olivia for girls.
Across AHN’s maternity care units, those were the two most popular names given to the nearly 8,400 new babies born last year.
Of those babies’ names, more than 2,100 were only used once in the network in 2024, AHN said, and in all, parents used more than 3,100 different names in 2024.
The top five names for baby boys were:
- 1. Oliver
- 2. Jack
- 3. Theodore
- 4. Owen
- 5. Liam
And the top five names for baby girls were:
- 1. Olivia
- 2. Amelia
- 3. Evelyn
- 4. Charlotte
- 5. Nora
The names Owen, Charlotte and Olivia have remained in the top five for the second consecutive year, and Charlotte was the No. 1 girl’s name in 2023, AHN reported.
However, at UPMC, where 24,370 babies were delivered in 2024, the top names were different.
The top five names for baby boys were:
- 1. Theodore
- 2. Liam
- 3. Noah
- 4. Oliver
And the top four baby girl names were:
- 1. Amelia
- 2. Sophia
- 3. Charlotte
- 4. Olivia
Compared to the rest of the country, Olivia is the No. 1 girl’s name, with Amelia and Emma in second and third, and Oliver is the No. 3 boy’s name, following Noah and Liam, according to a report issued by BabyCenter.
