The Veterans Administration has given a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit more than $1 million for its veterans programs.

The Veterans Leadership Program has received about $1,030,000 from the VA for its Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.

The funding is in addition to the $1.9 million the VA already provides to the program, according to Toshua Jarrett, chief development officer for the Veterans Leadership Program.

More than 300 more veterans and their families will be able to be helped because of the infusion of cash, Jarrett said, and it will especially help veterans who are struggling because of the covid-19 pandemic.

In place since 2012, the program helps veterans in Western Pennsylvania with housing, rental assistance, utility bills and other issues they’re facing, Jarrett said.

“This will really assist those veterans in a housing or utility crisis,” she said.

The program normally helps about 550 veterans and their families each year. With the additional money, more than 300 more families can be helped, Jarrett said.
