The Mon Wharf parking area will be closed Wednesday because of flooding, the Public Parking Authority of Pittsburgh announced Tuesday.

All vehicles will have to be removed from the lot by 7 p.m. Tuesday, the authority said. The wharf will be closed until further notice.

A flood advisory for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh runs until Wednesday morning. The river is forecast to rise to near 19.5 feet, according to the advisory. At that level, the wharf is completely flooded.

Meteorologist Lee Hendricks said about 1.5 inches of rain fell across a broad area of the Monongahela and Cheat river basins, with spots up to 2.5 inches.

“There’s a lot of water that’s going to be moving up the Monongahela River to Pittsburgh,” he said.

A winter weather advisory for freezing rain and snow ended at 11 a.m.

A mix of rain and snow is expected until about 1 p.m., followed by scattered snow, Hendricks said. There will be little to no snow accumulation.

Freezing will be an issue overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, Hendricks said. The temperature in the Pittsburgh area is expected to drop to 23 degrees by Wednesday morning, with the high reaching only 28 degrees.

Scattered snow showers are expected through much of the day Wednesday, but accumulation will be less than half an inch, he said.
