A woman was killed Friday in the first of two back-to-back vehicle crashes along Interstate 79 near Cranberry, state police reported.

Cristi Reibert, 41, of Lyndora was pronounced dead after she was involved in a crash at about 3:30 p.m., just north of Cranberry in Butler County.

The initial investigation indicates Reibert was driving northbound on I-79 near Exit 78 when her Kia Forte drove off the left side of the road and rolled over multiple times. Police said Reibert’s vehicle came to a rest in the southbound side of I-79.

Reibert was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner.

Minutes later, another crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-79 between exits 78 and 85, state police told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV. No serious injuries were reported in the second incident.

The highway was shut down in both directions for more than an hour while officials investigated both crashes, snarling traffic along neighboring thoroughfare Route 19.

All lanes reopened shortly after 6 p.m.

The causes of the crashes remain unclear.
