Quite a few Christmas trees in Reserve are sporting a special decoration this year.

Folks who braved falling temperatures for the township’s Light Up Event on Dec. 5 received commemorative holiday ornaments as part of the night’s festivities.

Plenty of them were given away, as turnout was good despite the weather, according to township manager Jan Kowalski. For those who wanted to warm up, two fire pits provided sufficient heat.

For youngsters and the young at heart, a Touch-a-Truck activity was provided by Reserve’s police and volunteer fire departments, Ross/West View Emergency Medical Services, Michael Brothers Recycling and even the North Hills Special Response Team, which brought an armored vehicle.

Guests had opportunities to capture images at a TapSnap photo booth, grab a bite from two food trucks and marvel at carvings made on site by Ice Creations’ Richard Bubin.

At 7 o’clock, Santa Claus arrived at the township building parking lot to light the tree, accompanied by Pittsburgh Penguins mascot Iceburgh.

Sponsors for the Light Up Event were WesBanco Bank, Spagnolo Custom Homes, and local couple Sharon Sweeney and Steve Trunick, frequent supporters of community events.
