Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik was the guest of honor during a recent annual tea social in Fox Chapel.
The Medallion Tea, benefiting St. Lucy’s Auxilary to the Blind, was held Sept. 22 at the Pittsburgh Field Club.
Guests and Medallion Ball candidates enjoyed desserts, tea and fellowship as the high school candidates enjoyed a social gathering in their honor.
St. Lucy’s Auxiliary was founded in 1957 by a group of women with a mission to help blind individuals in the Pittsburgh community.
The Medallion Ball has evolved into a fundraiser arm of St. Lucy’s Auxiliary.
The mission of St. Lucy’s is to inspire and encourage lifetime commitment of volunteer service among young women.
“The tea is just a nice event to get the candidates and their mothers together with various St. Lucy’s members and especially the bishop, who will be presenting them with their Joan of Arc medallion at the ball,” said Roseanne Wholey, Medallion Ball publicity chair.
The event was chaired by Anna Marie Rheingrover.
Zubik greeted the candidates and their mothers in a receiving line and addressed the candidates, thanking them for their service.
The 81 candidates worked a total of 13,648 total volunteer hours. They will be presented at the Medallion Ball on Nov. 29.
Proceeds benefit the Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh.
